EPA + DHA at the cardiovascular dose. Triglyceride-form omega-3 for absorption.
Heart and metabolic support has unambiguous dose targets in the omega-3 category. EX1 ships re-esterified triglyceride (rTG) form omega-3 at the doses studied for cardiovascular benefit, not the less bioavailable ethyl-ester form at sub-clinical doses.
Why this category matters
EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids the body uses directly, with EPA primarily supporting cardiovascular function and DHA supporting brain and retinal membranes.
The body converts plant-source omega-3 (ALA from flax, chia) to EPA at about 5 percent efficiency and to DHA at under 0.5 percent. For meaningful cardiovascular intake without that bottleneck, marine-source or algal pre-formed EPA + DHA is the practical path.
The American Heart Association advisory on EPA + DHA for cardiovascular triglyceride support cites a combined dose range of 2 to 4 g/day for clinically meaningful triglyceride reduction.

How to choose a heart & metabolic supplement
Read the EPA + DHA milligrams, not total oil milligrams
A 1000 mg fish oil softgel delivers anywhere from 180 mg to 1000 mg of actual EPA + DHA depending on concentration. The active milligrams are what matter.
Choose re-esterified triglyceride (rTG) form when available
rTG absorbs more efficiently than the less bioavailable ethyl-ester (EE) form. The label should declare the form.
Vegan and vegetarian: choose algal DHA
Algal omega-3 is DHA-dominant and fully plant-source. At a sufficient dose (300 mg+ DHA per serving), it covers the brain and visual targets without fish.
Verify oxidation protection on the label
Omega-3 oxidises with time and heat. Look for Vitamin E or an equivalent stabiliser, and a Best Before date that reflects real stability testing.
